6 Of The Newest: 

I have put together a small article covering 6 applications available to Mac computers that could make your life a little easier – that is of course depending what you want to do with your life…..

I’ve split them into 2 groups – either Essentials to help you day to day, and Luxuries that you will enjoy none-the-less.

Essentials – this includes a HotKeys adaptation, an easy day by day organizer and a visual route planner.

Keyboard Maestro: 2.1.3 ($20/£10)
This allows you to create and use your own set of macro shortcuts on your pc or laptop, including controlling iTunes from another application without navigating away from it. If you don’t mind using a lot of time to set up and test these keyboard combinations – they will work out for you in the long run……

LifeShaker: 1.0.2 ($30/£15)
This application really is so simple to use and navigate through – I know we have seen ‘to do’ lists before – but this really has it covered – from business meetings to personal chores, you can save, use and rearrange details so simply, meaning one of your ‘things to do’ isn’t to update your ‘to do’ list…….

Meander: 2.1 ($40/£20)
This route planner isn’t aimed at the motorist for a change – it’s all about walking! Basically it enables you to plot potential routes across town and country, check distances covered and save versions of your routes for future use. The maps used can be manipulated effectively and it is compatible with Google Maps.

Luxuries - including a management application for home movies, an eBay assistant and a web-design package.

iDive: 1.8.6 ($90/£45)
This unbelievably simple drag-and-drop interface is designed to help even the newbies bring order their collection of movie clips. How this differs from other packages is the search feature which uses filters based on your topics. It also offers editing software, printable DVD/CD covers and direct export to digital photo frames!

iSale: 4.4 ($60/£30)
The most efficient application for assisting you to buy and sell on eBay Mac supplies. It offers a whole host of features including creating, tracking and managing auctions simply, express multiple listing service, excellent image management (up to 1GB), cleans up the post-sale paperwork, with billing and postal details all made instantly printable.

Goldfish: 2.1.1 ($50/£25)
This web design software is available to un-complicate the whole process, offering online help at every step. With either Standard of Professional programs (the latter has more coding options) you can use ready-made templates that basically do it for you! It also has the advantage of helping you to publish pages of your site after creatingthem, from within the program itself.

Want To Go To The Moon?

The European Space Agency is looking for young, fit people with a science degree to train as astronauts!!

They are actually looking for people to join their training programme to staff an international space station!

This multi-million pound venture will see actual real people from Europe audition and compete for a place on the team – it won’t be easy though as it is a continent-wide search – so over 400m people from 17 nations are allowed to apply – but you need to be between 27-37 years old and speak fluent English to get your foot in the door.

Sound like you?
The tiny problem is that you can’t hand in your notice at the supermarket, or serve your last spaghetti carbonara in the pasta restaurant and expect to get a reply. Preferred applicant should hold a PhD or Masters Degree in the Sciences – and a pilots licence would be nice – oh, and do you speak fluent Russian???

Apparently they are quite flexible, so if you are an excellent pilot, you can get in on a suitable Bachelors degree in Engineering or Medicine……. if you are extremely fit and aren’t likely to get ill in the next couple of years either.

Apparently, the odds are that out of all the people that apply, only about 50 will be suitable, and people have already started applying.

They are looking for candidates that show great leadership skills but can also follow instructions without question. Training is not easy, and you will need to be able to work in confined spaces with lots of background noise and perform sophisticated experiments – all this with people you may never have met before.

Sounds Great? 
Benefits include the £43,600 starting salary (rising to £70,750 over your 20 year career) and of course the ability to see the Earth as a blue sphere from the depths of space.

In addition, it it very likely that one or two of these astronauts will still be fit enough to be considered for a multi-national flight to the moon in the next decade!

So, What’s New?? 

Here’s a quick glance at some big films coming out over the next 6 months worth going to the movies for:

Coming Sooner….

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull:
With the longest title of any movie in a long while, this film brings together all the old classics of an Indie movie – including Harrison Ford as well. Goodness knows how old he is now – and with Nicholas Cage trying to take his ‘explorer crown’ with his recently aired second movie in the National Treasure series – will Fords’ be good enough to be be shown every Christmas for the next 10 years like the rest of them??

The Cottage:
Here is the blood and gut’s film of the collection – place sexy little Jennifer Ellison in some terrifying situations in a little low-scoop neck white t-shirt – and bingo! With plenty of swearing and some real angry-girl fighting – this flick should be great fun……

Valkyrie:
Tom Cruise steps into the lead role in this serious film about German people rebelling against Hitler, involving an assasination plot to get rid of the evil leader. This thriller involves plenty of other well-known actors in a desperate chase which will keep you on the edge of your seat – even though you think you know the historical result already……..

Forgetting Sarah Marshall:
Expect all sorts of difficult, embarrasing situations in the new movie about a disasterous individual. After splitting from his girlfriend, he heads of on holiday to forget about her – only to find that she is only in the exact same place – with a new lover in tow!

Coming Later……

How To Lose Friends And Alienate People:
With another Simon Pegg film on the cards you wonder when he has time to even eat – I mean he’s already been filming as Scotty in the new Star Trek Movie (see seperate entry) as well….. With Kirsten Dunst acting alongside the hapless hero of this movie, in both England and New York, you can be assured of some comic genius.

Star Trek:
From the man who made Mission Impossible III comes this new Trekkie film – with NO William Shatner!!!! Chris Pine (Smokin’ Aces) takes on the role of Kirk, and Simon Pegg as Scotty – this should be the only Star Trek Film that us ‘un-trekkie’ humans might get away with watching without having to do the whole hand-gesture thing…..

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button:
It’s got Brad Pitt in it – so that’s that really.

The Dark Knight:
Get yourself prepared for the return of Christian Bale as the new, improved, slightly evil Batman. With Heath Ledger, Michael Caine and Maggie Gyllenhaal all starring in this dark almost ‘vigilante’ movie – it will be money well spent – but don’t go alone!
