Welcome to the world of predictive web-pages……
I recently got an email from a friend linking to a website he had found that could be of interest to me. And apparently he got it recommended to him by - would you believe it - a piece of software.
Basically, StumbleUpon is a sort of social site where you add an icon to your toolbar, and then just give websites you like the ‘thumbs up’ and those you don’t the opposite. Your account apparently then recognises what you liked or disliked and keeps a note of it.
So how does this help you?
Well, now the software is getting to grips with what taste you have in websites, it starts to ‘match you up’ with other accounts who like roughly the same thing as you, and offers you the chance to see websites they liked which you haven’t seen yet (or you haven’t reported on yet).
This way, you get to save time searching the web for new and exciting things to read or look at, and all the time, you are helping others to do the same by voting on what you see.
All the while you are voting, you are updating your account and helping to introduce other users to new websites too. A great chance to find other sites you may never come across.
What Else?
Well, you can connect with friends (people who you actually have something in common with rather than just random strangers) and easily chat to those online at the same time as you about great new websites.
It’s also an easy way to send links or messages without opening up your own emails. You can also search for websites not filtered by your own account preferences for something different as well, or even run your own blog here. There is also a section to watch and comment on all sorts of videos recommended by others.
So, go have fun out there………
